Dry Sea (Ganhaizi)

Dry Sea
Originally, the Dry Sea, located at east of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and 25km (15.5 miles) from Lijiang town, was an elevated glacial lake 3,100 meters (10,171 feet) above sea level. However, during the 1940's, this lake dried up and became today's Dry Sea which is a meadow.

At the Dry Sea you can be assured of a panoramic view of the mountain because Dry Sea is the closest and best place to witness the beauty of Jade dragon Snow Mountain. In addition to the view, there are many kinds of convenience facilities and areas to rest for visitors.

Dry Sea was an ice erosion lake. However, over countless years the water in it decreased and finally disappeared. That's the reason people call it Dry Sea. Nowadays it is a beautiful meadow surrounded by mountains on three sides. When you are there you will feel that the field of vision is extremely vast. The whole is very quiet and serene. The big and comfortable green grassland looks like a blanket, stretching itself into the great distance. During a particular time between every spring and summer various kinds of flowers are in blossom with a spirit of competition. At this time the whole area will become a sea of flowers.

Dry Sea
The Dry Sea itself is a gorgeous meadow that blooms colorful flowers during spring. During the summer, it is a full coat of green from the abundant plant life in the area. These plants and trees turn into colorful foliage during the autumn covered the mountain in shades of yellow, orange and red. In the winter, it becomes a blissfully crisp field of puffy white snow. The Dry Sea is used to graze live stock such as cattle, goats, yaks and sheep.

Nowadays, the Dry Sea is also a travel resort with minority villages nearby. Besides sight seeing, there are various other exciting activities to participate in such as skiing and horse racing.
