Chongqin

The most safe and efficient way to the mountainous city Chongqing is probably by plane. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is located in the Lianglu town in the Yubei district of Chongqing. It is 23 kilometers away from the urban area. There is a highway directly to the urban area. It cost around 100 Yuan to take a ride from the airport to the downtown. Currently, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) has 58 domestic and foreign city connections while 70 foreign and domestic airlines operate scheduled flights to Chongqing. Except for Hohhot in Inner Mongolia, all the capital cities of China's provinces have connections to Chongqing. With flights between Chongqing and foreign cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, Nagoya, Bangkok, Munich, and Duesseldorf, tourists can easily reach Chongqing by plane. 

Railway
Chongqing Railway Station is the center of railway transportation in the Chongqing area. There are three main national rail lines in Chongqing: the Chuan-Qian Railroad is from Chongqing in the north to Guiyang in the south and the overall length is 463 kilometers; the Cheng-Yu Railroad is from Chengdu in the west to Chongqing in the east and the overall length is 504 kilometers; the Xiang-Yu Railroad is from Xiangfan, Hubei in the east to Chongqing in the west and the overall length is 915 kilometers. On these three lines, travelers can go to most cities in China, including Beijing (25 hours), Shanghai (39 hours), Xian (15 hours), and Chengdu (10 hours). Buy your tickets at the ticket offices at the railway station.

There are three train stations in Chongqing and they are Chongqing Railway Station located in Caiyuanba, South Railway Station in Jiulongpo and North Railway Station in Longtou Si.

Bus/Coach

There are frequent long-distance buses to the counties belonging to Chongqing as well as to Sichuan, Hunan, Guizhou and other provinces. But do remember to buy tickets at the correct ticketing window. The fares for buses taking the expressway and the common highway are different even for the same destinations. The buses taking the common highway may stop at some small places on the way.

There are a lot of national highways in Chongqing, such as, Highway 210, 212, 313, 319, 321, etc. These national roads have formed a comprehensive transportation network which has linked Chognqing with other parts of China.

Shaping Dam District Bus Station
Shaping Dam District Bus Station is next to Chongqing North Railway Station. Every day, many buses set off to Nanchong, Quxian, Guangan, Nanchuan, Shehong, Yibin, Luzhou, Lezhou,etc.

Chongqing North Bus Station
Chongqing North Bus Station is located in the Red Flag River Ditch. Every day, many buses set off to Cizhu, Dasheng,Nanchong, Wanzhou Leqing,Jiulong,Baiyan, Shuining, Daxian, Zhongxian, Kaijiang, Gaozui,Dawan, Liangcha, Neijiang, etc.

Waterway
Chongqing Passenger Dock (the Chongqing Chaotianmen Dock) is located in Chaotianmen, which is in the east of the Yuzhong District and at the junction of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River. It's the best starting point for a Three Gorges cruise by ship. The high-energy highway transportation in the Chongqing port is very convenient. There are direct buses coming and going. Many medium buses and taxies can provide service for travelers at night. If travelers want to enjoy the sights along the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges by ship, at first they must choose cruise ship which is good for taking. There are three categories of passenger ships in the part of the Three Gorges: the foreign tourist boat, the domestic tourist boat, and the common passenger boat. The foreign tourist boat is graded from one-star to five-star. The price of this boat is much higher. The domestic tourist boat owns facilities of performing various functions, which can provide travelers with all kinds of services. In order to meet the need of travelers, the range and ship dock are set according to scenic spots along the Three Gorge of the Yangtze River. Ferry
Ferry is a very common transportation means to and from Chongqing. There are regular ferries to Yichang, Wuhan and other cities along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangzi River daily except during flood seasons. The ticket office is at Chongqing Ferry Terminal of Chaotianmen

Local Transportation
The transportation is very developed. There are tens of buses and trolley buses running in the urban city and suburb. From 5:30 to 21:00 every day, it's very convenient to take buses. Now, there are three kinds of buses in Chongqing. The first is the common bus. The ticket costs 1 Yuan. Bus 402, from the Liberation Monument to Shaping Dam, is the longest line and the admission fee is 1.5 Yuan. The second is the midlevel bus. It carries out a system which sets the price of ticket according to the distance. The starting fare is 1.5 Yuan. This bus is air-conditioned. The third is the high-level bus. It adopts aero seat. It also carries out the system which sets the price of ticket according to the distance. The starting fare is 2 Yuan. Travelers can take buses of the airport from the airport to the urban city. It stops over the Longhu Garden, the Customs in Yubei District, and the end point is the Shangqing Temple in the Yuzhong district. Now, a kind of new taxi called "Lingyang (antelope)"appears in Chongqing. The price of this car is as high as that of Aotuo, but it can hold 4 people and it's much more comfortable than autos. The fee for taking a "Lingyang" to the urban city is usually about 80 Yuan. It should be very developed as to the present urban transportation in Chongqing. Bus lines are radiated in all directions. Mini-buses (also called medium buses) in Chongqing have a unified price in the whole city. Don't worry about being cheated and travelers may rest assured to take. In addition, if travelers take a bus with air conditioner in summer, the fee will be more 0.50 Yuan than that of bus without air conditioner.

Taxi
There are two kinds of taxis in Chongqing. The yellow ones are more common with a base rate of 5 RMB for the first three kilometers and then 1.8 RMB per additional kilometer; the other kind is less common kind usually in white have a base rate of 7 RMB for the first three kilometers and then 2.8 RMB per additional kilometer. There will be an additional 15% charge between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Light Rail
There is only one line in operation, running between Jiaochangkou and Xinshancun from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. with 18 stations.

Cableway
A cableway is set up across the river nearby Chaotianmen where the Yangzi River meets Jialing River. If you want to have a nice night view of Chongqing City, this is a good choice.
